Easter Reading List

Sometime last week, I spent half an hour wandering the School library for something new to read during the holidays. I ended up with five books and whittled it down to four, although one book was for my sister, K, since she couldn’t find it at her own school library, which makes three for me.

She’s reading through the entire ‘Skulduggery Pleasant’ series, and needless to say, she loves the books. I haven’t read them myself, but I’m just happy that she’s moved on from her everlasting phase of little kitten/fairy collectible books and is reading much more widely now. She’s also reading some of Roald Dahl’s books at long last, and is showing the key symptom of reading by lamplight. Celebrate with me – my sister has become a Reader!

I know I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, so I usually look at the blurbs first. But wow, these are nice.

I’ve been waiting for Ultraviolet (RJ Anderson) to become available for a while now. My friends have attempted to ruin the wait by telling me ‘the ending was not what we signed up for’, but I took that as a good thing. As for Huntress, I picked it up without reading Ash, but it’s not a sequel, just set in the same world, so I decided to take it out. Also, Malinda Lo is a lovely name, don’t you think?

Now, this book gets its own, bigger photo because it’s so beautiful.
I did a double take in the library – it’s another of those books that I did not expect to see there.

Out of Neil Gaiman’s books, I have read Neverwhere and The Graveyard Book (and loved both).
I also own two of Chris Riddell’s books, one from the Fergus Crane series and The Last of the Sky Pirates (The Edge Chronicles), which my aunt gave me for Christmas years ago. I adore his illustrations (Follow him on instagram if you want to see more!). There is something kooky and whimsical (and yet ever so real) about his drawings.
The book cover is translucent so you can just see the sleeper underneath, and is adorned in black and metallic ink. I squealed just holding it. It’s now on my to-buy list.

My World Book Day token expires tomorrow. I’m thinking of using it to finally buy that copy of Battle Royale that I have always wanted.

On a final note, I set my Goodreads challenge at 12 books because I didn’t think I’d get though very many this year. I’m already at 6!
How many books have you read this year? Aiming to read more?
